  • 2 boneless beef chops or chicken breasts

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey (as a substitute for mirin)
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups cooked Japanese short-grain rice
  • Optional garnishes: shredded cabbage, green onion slices, toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Season the beef or chicken with salt and pepper.
  2. Dredge in flour, dip into the beaten egg, then coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Fry cutlets for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
