  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 6 oz almond paste
  • 1 large egg, beaten (divided)
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the thawed puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg. Mix until smooth.
  4. Spread the almond filling down the center third of the pastry.
  5. Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the pastry about 1 inch wide.
  6. Fold alternating strips over the filling to create a braided effect.
  7. Brush the top with remaining beaten egg and sprinkle sliced almonds.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Allow cooling slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
